Finding someone who was in the military is not always an easy feat. Most of the time, it is only when a person is listed as active duty are they easy to locate. There are many steps that can be taken to find a family, friend or loved one. On the contrary, a military search is also used when someone is launching a civil suit against a person. If the person is unresponsive and it is known that he or she served in the military, the court may require a military affidavit.

The typical military search can start with a person’s first name. If the person is active, you can start buy calling the base operator at the base you believe the person is stationed at. This can be a longshot and only applies to people you believe are active military. Beyond that, the base operator will be able to help you. The great thing is that unless the person has said they do not want their personal information listed, the base operator has the authority to share the current address and phone number of the person. From here, you can move forward with the military affidavit if needed or simply contact the person. This is a smart tool that not everyone is aware of, but it’s free and just takes your time to call the base. You are allowed to call multiple bases.

For those who are stationed internationally, you can call that individual branch of the military to be connected to a base operator who runs the international leg of that branch. He or she will be able to direct you to someone who can help you when all you have access to is the person’s name.
