Age impacts people in different ways. The ability to remember things clearly can fail. So, too, can various body parts. One way old age manifests itself among Hamilton seniors is in their teeth. They may be in bad shape or simply missing. For those with various dental issues, dentures may be the solution.

You may consider dentures if you have lost or are in danger of losing your teeth due to one or more reasons listed below:

  • Missing Teeth: If one or more teeth are gone, due to injury or disease, your other teeth are likely to shift out of their normal position, exposing their roots, thus making them weaker and more likely to develop cavities.
  • Loose Teeth: This indicates loss of bone or injury, therefore putting you at a great risk of tooth loss.
  • Red and Swollen Gums: If you have bleeding or irritated gums, you may have gingivitis or periodontal disease. If not treated, it can harm your gums and jaw bone, and your teeth may need to be removed.
  • A Constant Toothache: This may indicate decay which extends into the nerve tissue of the tooth. If decay is extensive, it may no longer be possible to save that tooth, resulting in extraction.

  • Difficulty Chewing Food: If you have difficulty chewing, this may be a result of cracked or injured teeth, extensive decay or gum disease. Failing to seek treatment when experiencing any of these symptoms may result in tooth loss.

While some of the above dental problems can be addressed through a basic dental procedure, such as a filling, some are beyond repair. Any gaps in the dentition can be replaced with a denture.

Full or Partial?

If you are looking at replacing natural teeth with artificial teeth in the form of a denture, you have two options. If you are missing only one or few teeth and have small gaps, your best option may be a partial denture. Alternatively, if you want to replace all of your teeth, the only option is a complete denture. Your dentist will make a custom denture that will fit perfectly over your gums.
