There are different types of flow meters in use across production facilities and other types of operations around the world. Each of the options in flow meters can be used for one or more different applications, but not all applications are right for all flow meters.

The Micro Motion Coriolis meter is a popular meter for a wide range of applications. In fact, due to the design and operation features of this particular design of flowmeter, it is one of the most universally used types of meters. However, it is not ideal in all types of applications, and this does need to be considered when choosing between this flow meter and other possible options.

Types of Media

The Micro Motion Coriolis meter can be used for almost any type of media. This includes petrochemical products, food, chemicals, solvents, latex, oils, gases, and even liquified gases. They are an effective flowmeter choice for media where there is a high solid content in the fluid, which is common in many processing types of applications.

Vibration Issues

All types of Coriolis mass flow meters operate by detecting changes in the oscillation of the tubes. This is a highly effective measurement process, and it is not dependent on the temperature of the media or the specific type of media.

One issue can that can be of concern in the choice of a Micro Motion Coriolis meter is issues with vibrations external to the meter. Specific types of processes in the system, such as pumps or even specific types of equipment in use in proximity to the meter can impact the readings. Specific filters can be used to offset these types of external vibrations that may be recorded by the meter and incorrectly reported as changes in the flow rate through the system.

Choosing the position of the Coriolis meter is another way to avoid this issue. By selecting a position that is not impacted by process noise and having the correct filters in place, these issues can be avoided.
