Here are some tips on keeping your fishing reel in great condition.
Check Your Cleaning Tools
For cleaning a fishing reel, you will need a small screwdriver, a pair of tweezers, toothbrush, and a toothpick plus a wrench. You also have to prepare your cleaning fluid, it can be oil or grease, depending on your preference. Have a clean and dry cloth for finishing touch.
If you are casting in saltwater, you need to clean your reel with lukewarm or hot water. If you do freshwater fishing, cold water will do. Saltwater anglers should clean and wash their fishing reel after each casting.
Cleaning the Sides of Your Reel
Do not forget to clean the underside of your fishing reel. You can remove the drag know to get into the spool. Wipe it with a clean cloth then apply grease or oil. For a Seahawk Fishing reel, use oil or grease that is for Seahawk Fishing product only. Apply oil on the handle knobs, line rollers, folding handle and bail arm springs.
You should apply grease or oil to each bearing and gear. Greasing the bearings and gears doesn’t need to be every month though. It can be done once a year or when you are doing a full service.
When to Do a Full Service?
A full-service means dissembling your fishing reel in Malaysia to clean all parts, including bearings and gears. You can do this once a year. If you are a regular angler, twice a year is highly recommended.
