The worst part about the COVID-19 pandemic is the way that is has kept us apart from the ones we love, especially if those loved ones are in senior living facilities. Now, more than ever, it’s important that you take the time to foster your connection to loved ones who you can’t see in person. Not only will such close connections help you through these tough times, but it will also lift the spirits of those in senior living.
Video Chat
It’s quite possible that you’ve gotten used to using Skype or Zoom for work purposes and long virtual meetings. But having video chats with your parents or grandparents in senior living is one of the best ways to stay connected. Usually, the staff at the facility can help set up video chats on an iPad or computer; however, many seniors are tech-savvy these days as well.
Care Packages
You can also work on sending a care package to your loved one. These can contain some of their favorite snacks or candy, handwritten notes, games, magazines, or anything else that is special to them. No matter our age, we always love receiving a package, and this is a great way to let someone know you are always thinking of them.
Socially Distanced Visits
If allowed, think about doing a socially distanced visit. For safety reasons, you won’t be able to get close, but you can still stop by and see each other through a window or even just let them know you are in the parking lot.
