You won’t be the first couple to need to take advantage of long distance relationship advice and you won’t be the last. When you embark on a long-distance relationship you may not see the roadblocks ahead, but your therapist will have experienced many similar conversations with couples in the past.

Social Media Cannot Answer Everything

Despite your many skills with operating a wide selection of social media that allows you to talk, text, video and share pictures and experiences with your loved one, you may still need to build upon a range of skills to ensure that the long-distance relationship advice received, is both maintained and updated.

Some individuals seek long distance relationship advice because they have tried everything they can think of and have failed. It is emotionally draining to be away from the person you love and physically, you will be missing the individual being close to you.

You Must Understand What You Will Miss Most

Using your social media skills will not provide you with a hug from your loved one, but you will need to persist with your relationship through social media and all communication methods as you develop skills which are going to be different to those you have used in the past. You can still send flowers, but not put an arm around the person to thank them for receiving such a wonderful gift.

Your partner is going to spend time with other people and you may not know many, or possibly, all of them. This is going to be a shock to your system as your partner talks about people that you are going to have to learn about, from a distance.

The time difference may play havoc with your social media face time, but where there is a will, you will always find a way to make time for the continuation of a strong relationship.

Your therapist will talk about the promises that you make to each other while you are so far away and help you understand many of the difficulties that you may not have thought about in advance. Many long-distance relationships work extremely well, but you may have to learn new skills to adapt.
