Water leaking into your Loveland, CO house can cause a lot of damage. Water can damage your property inside the house. If moisture is ignored, or not noticed, it can cause rotting in the structure of your house. It can also lead to mold growth, which could put your family’s health at risk. Quick action must be taken to minimize any damage and it is best to call roofers in Loveland, CO.

Mop Up as Much of The Water as You Can

Use towels and anything else you have that will work to soak up the water. If you have a continuing drip, you can place a bucket underneath it until the dripping stops. Dry off any furniture that may have gotten wet as best as you can. If your carpet has gotten wet, use towels to get it mostly dry. Then you should pick up the carpet from the edge, and prop it up on something to keep an air gap between the carpet and the floor. This way it will dry faster, and it won’t be holding moisture against the flooring, which would promote mold growth.

Inspect Your Roof

When you can, check your roof for obvious signs of the cause of the leak. Look out for water pooling up or puddles. If water is staying in puddles or pooling up on its way down the roof, it can end up flowing back up underneath the shingles. Look for any damaged or missing shingles. Check your gutters and downspouts. Any debris such as leaves and twigs or even ice in your gutters could be causing the water to pool up and seep in underneath the shingles. Check your roof from inside the attic as well. You may be able to get a better idea of where the leak is coming from by looking from the inside. The leak might be coming from one area, then traveling along the inside of the roof before entering the living area of your house. Check the plywood sheathing of your roof to see if it is wet anywhere. Also, look for signs of existing damage. A leak can get worse over time, so water may have been collecting over time before it entered the living area.

Call a Licensed Roofing Contractor

If your inspection uncovers a lot of damage, or your roof is simply old and needs to be replaced, call a professional roofing company. They can make their own assessment of the damage and let you know the extent of the work that needs to be done to fix it.
